Position Summary:
Academic advisors assist students in their development by constructing educational plans to achieve their academic goals and complete their course of study. They focus on academic progress, movement towards graduation, and, at times, career goals. Through their fluency with the curriculum, university and department requirements, the class requirements, and close collaboration with the faculty, they assist students to make informed decisions about their educational plan. Their knowledge of student-facing offices such as Student Finance, Registrar, Student Success, Learning Success Center, Shevet Glaubach Center for Career Strategy, and Counseling Center provides the student with the necessary tools to navigate potential difficulties on the path to success.
This position serves students and therefore involves extensive interpersonal, communication, and social problem-solving skills. A sympathetic and generous disposition is a necessary hallmark of a successful and well-respected advisor as they provide individualized assistance and, at times, interpret students' needs.
