    If hired, the State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49.00 will be charged for fingerprinting.

    PRIMARY PURPOSE

    To support academic success and college readiness for AVID students in grades 612 by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups, modeling academic strategies, and mentoring students in a supportive, inquiry-based learning environment.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Facilitate small-group tutorials using the AVID 10-Step Tutorial Process.
    • Assist students in developing critical thinking, inquiry, and organizational skills.
    • Support students in understanding rigorous course content across multiple subject areas.
    • Evaluate and support student use of AVID binders (physical and digital), Focus Notes, and Tutorial Request Forms (TRFs).
    • Model professionalism, college-going behavior, and a growth mindset.
    • Establish and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students and staff.
    • Participate in all required AVID tutor training and professional development.
    • Communicate regularly with AVID coordinators and teachers regarding student progress and any concerns.
    • Follow classroom routines and expectations set by the AVID teacher.
    • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance and inform the teacher in advance of absences or tardiness.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

    Education/Certification/Experience:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
    • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time (12 credit hour minimum) college or university student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 OR a college graduate preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Familiarity with academic subjects and ability to guide students at various middle and high school levels.
    • Understanding of AVID methodologies and the 10-Step Tutorial Process (training provided).
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to engage students in inquiry-based learning and collaborative group work.
    • Ability to maintain professionalism, act as a positive role model, and support a college-going culture.

    Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

    • Ability to move around the classroom and campus as needed.
    • Ability to stay focused and manage time effectively.
    • Work is performed in a standard classroom setting.
    • Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions of other information.
