Unemployment overview

• Overall unemployment rate is 10.2 percent, continuing to decrease from more than 14%
• However, rehiring is not happening equally. Here are the unemployment rates by demographic for July 2020:
  • Men = 9.2 percent
  • Women = 10.5 percent
  • White workers = 9.2 percent
  • Asian workers = 12 percent
  • Hispanic workers = 12.9 percent
  • Black workers = 14.6 percent

Here are the top 10 fastest growing jobs and what they pay

• Real Estate Agent: $103,500
• Animal caretaker (nonfarm): $41,500

Here are the top 10 fastest growing industries

Over the course of July, CareerBuilder has seen a huge growth in agriculture, forestry and hunting, alongside the continued increase in jobs in the transportation, warehousing, real estate and retail industries.

And here are how major industries are recovering and bringing back jobs, according to the July 2020 jobs report:

• Employment in leisure and hospitality (which includes restaurants and hotels) increased by 592,000, accounting for about one-third of the gain in employment last month.
• Retail added 258,000 jobs in clothing and accessories stores, but overall is still lower than February (so, pre-COVID-19 pandemic) by 913,000 jobs. General merchandise stores, specifically warehouse clubs and supercenters, lost 64,000 jobs in July.
• Employment in professional and business services increased in July by 170,000 jobs, about 85% of which were in temporary help services. These industries remain 1.6 million jobs below February levels.
• There were 119,000 jobs added in personal and laundry services, but these industries are still down by 627,000 jobs since February, and while 623,000 manufacturing jobs were added during the past three months, there are still 740,000 fewer jobs than in February. There were 639,000 construction jobs added in the past three months, but this number remains 444,000 below its February level.
• Other industries that continue to see gains include health care, social assistance, transportation and warehousing.
