Ability to: Ensure safety around work areas in high traffic; Ensure adherence to safety requirement and safe work practices and procedures; Independently perform the most difficult general construction, maintenance, and repair work related to the area of work assigned; Lead, organize, and review the work of assigned staff; Interpret, explain, and enforce department policies and procedures; Perform a variety of tasks and heavy manual labor for extended periods of time and in adverse weather conditions; Use and operate vehicles and equipment, hand tools, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner; Work independently in the absence of supervision; Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Preparing and maintaining records, logs, and related documentation; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in course of work. Under general supervision, this position leads, oversees, and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction work in the completion of Public Works activities and operations including in the areas of streets, sewers, public buildings, and related facilities; operates and maintains maintenance and construction tools and heavy equipment; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
