Work is primarily conducted outdoors with exposure to outdoor conditions, including: Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, construction zones, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris. National Utility Locating Contractors Association (NULCA) Accreditation, knowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), ASCE 38-02, ASCE 38-22 experience with utilizing survey equipment, Laser Scanner, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Total Station.

Subsurface Utility Engineering Technician I

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, excessive noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, oils, chemicals, electrical hazards, moving mechanical equipment, elevated work areas, and other potentially hazardous conditions. The ability to perform pre-construction plan reviews and new construction inspections within the scope authorized by the North Carolina Level II Fire Inspector certification, deliver fire prevention programs to a broader range of occupancies, and support emergency operations, including departmental drone operations.

Scheduling & Availability Rotate between active job sites based on project priority and inspection schedules; expected to manage time independently and efficiently across multiple simultaneous projects; Coordinate weekly schedules with the Director of Land Development; communicate proactively when conflicts arise that affect planned site coverage. Obtain and maintain a current contact list (name, phone, email) for each active community, including general contractors, foremen, superintendents, subcontractors, utility contractors, jurisdictional inspectors, and any adjacent property owners directly impacted by development activity.
