LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; Ability to write simple correspondence; Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, consumers, and employees of the organization; Demonstrated ability to keep clear, accurate records; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
According to TSSAA Bylaws, coaches in Tennessee public schools must be registered annually and generally fall into specific categories determining their employment paths:
- Faculty Pathway: Possess a Bachelor's degree and a valid Tennessee Teaching License.
- Non-Faculty / Classified Pathway: School districts may hire non-faculty coaches or classified employees who do not hold a teaching license, provided they pass background checks and receive approval from the school principal and local board of education.
- Training & Instruction: Develops and implements individualized training plans focused on endurance, pacing, and terrain strategy.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is the minimum requirement; however, a bachelor's degree in education or a related field is often preferred for faculty-based roles.
