Zoo Caretaker/Laborer (Part-Time Commissary)
The City of Attleboro is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Part-Time Zoo Caretaker/Laborer in the Park and Forestry Department. Under the direction of the Zoo Curator, the successful candidate will assist the animal care team with the daily care and feeding of zoo animals, as well as the maintenance of animal exhibits, grounds, and facilities. The main job duties will include fulfilling the role of Commissary Keeper.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Prepare food and provide daily feeding and watering for zoo animals and plants.
*
Clean and disinfect animal enclosures and habitats.
*
Participate in the zoo's Behavioral Husbandry and Animal Wellbeing Program by planning and providing enrichment activities, utilizing operant conditioning techniques to train animals, and conducting welfare assessments for assigned animals.
*
Maintain accurate daily records and complete required reports.
*
Under the guidance of the veterinarian, observe and care for sick and newborn animals, maintain records, and prepare reports as directed.
*
Treat minor injuries and administer medications as directed.
*
Monitor feed and produce inventories and communicate supply needs to the supervisor and Zoo Curator.
*
Maintain the zoo commissary.
*
Respond to public inquiries and provide information to visitors.
*
Maintain zoo buildings, exhibits, and surrounding grounds.
*
Perform landscaping duties, including mowing grass and installing drainage systems.
*
Participate in snow removal operations.
*
Perform other related duties as required.
Experience Required
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and abilities:
Knowledge of animal care practices, including experience caring for exotic animals. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to operate light trucks, automobiles, power tools, hand tools, and standard zoological equipment. Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds. Valid state driver's license. Ability to handle firearms, including shotguns and tranquilizer equipment, preferred but not required.

This job will be 19 hours a week scheduled for M/W/Fri.
Salary
$19/Hr
