The Louisville Zoo is excited to announce a wonderful opportunity to join our ever-evolving animal department as Assistant Curator of Mammals! Our diverse mammal community runs the gamut with pachyderms, pinnipeds, ungulates, primates, carnivores and marsupials represented. Everything from naked mole-rats to white rhinos! Our AZA award winning facilities, "Gorilla Forest", "Glacier Run" and "Islands" are indicative of a dedication to innovative habitat design with special focus on animal training, space rotation, choice/ control, overall welfare, and guest inspiration.The new AC will join our other AC of Mammals and Mammal Taxonomic Curator to support and develop a seasoned and aspiring keeper team. As a huge bonus, Louisville is a progressive and fun city surrounded by the natural beauty of forests rolling hills, caverns, and waterways.

Successful candidates will possess:

significant experience with any combination of mammals with open consideration for expertise covering any particular group of mammals.

a positive and progressive approach to animal program management, team development and guest engagement.

\t\t\t\t\tExamples of the essential functions of this position include:
\t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t• Supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
\t\t\t\t\t• Coordinating, assigning and reviewing work and establishes work schedules; maintaining standards; monitoring the status of work in progress; inspecting completed work assignments; answering questions; givings advice and direction as needed.
\t\t\t\t\t• Observing the general health and behavior of the animals.
\t\t\t\t\t• Assisting in the acquisition, disposition, and exhibition of animals.
\t\t\t\t\t• Assisting in budget preparation and monitors expenditures.
\t\t\t\t\t• Participating in renovation planning and the design of new exhibits as directed.
\t\t\t\t\t• Assisting in the safety and security operations of the zoo.
\t\t\t\t\t• Maintaining applicable records on the animals and directly facilitating zoo participation in the International Species Inventory System.
\t\t\t\t\t• Participating in scientific research as available or necessary.
\t\t\t\t\t• Participating in daily work routines of the animal area.

Experience Required
\t\t\t\t\t
Minimum of 2 years of managerial experience at a Zoo

The position we are hiring for is just for the Mammal Department and does not include the Commissary as it mentions.
