As a CMM programming expert at TOMZ, you turn models and drawings into trusted measurement routines, teaching machines to see exactly what our customers require.

A day in the life

• Translate drawings and specifications into robust, automated CMM and metrology programs for first-article, in‑process, and final inspection.
• Prove out programs to reduce measurement bias, ensure linearity, and control repeatability and reproducibility risks; communicate Alpha and Beta measurement risk clearly to stakeholders.
• Maintain automated inspection assets: qualify probes, clean equipment, and verify scales to keep performance stable.
• Design and source workholding, fixtures, and functional gages that make inspections repeatable during product development.
• Set instrument criteria and acceptance specifications aligned with best practices and applicable standards.
• Enable automatic data capture from measurement systems into inspection plans and quality records.
• Develop inspection methods, tool mapping, First Article Inspections (FAIs), and in‑process checks that partner seamlessly with manufacturing.
• Revise programs and related documentation when engineering changes occur.
• Support root‑cause investigations tied to automated inspection, tooling, and programs.
• Lead and support Gage R&R and other Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities.
• Coordinate and/or perform calibration to maintain traceability to national/international standards.
• Create clear work instructions and train operators on designated automated inspection equipment.
• Contribute to additional, related tasks as business needs evolve.

Expertise snapshot

• Fluency reading GD&T per ASME Y14.5; strong grasp of ANSI/ASME and ISO metrology standards.
• Hands‑on experience with precision measurement tools: CMMs, Vision Systems, and Contracers.
• Subject matter expertise in CMM programming — Calypso (preferred) or PC‑DMIS/Open DMIS.
• 3D modeling and drafting proficiency; capable of turning CAD into bulletproof inspection logic.
• Clear written and verbal communication in English; cross‑functional collaborator with R&D, Manufacturing, and QA who works effectively with minimal guidance.
• Comfort with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe PDF.

Preferred exposure

• Background in regulated manufacturing (Aerospace, Defense, Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, etc.).
• Working knowledge of GMP/ISO frameworks.
• Experience with CT scanning, white‑light scanning, and broader 3D metrology.
• Familiarity with PC‑DMIS or Geomeasure environments.

• Associate’s degree preferred (Manufacturing or Engineering discipline) or equivalent directly transferable experience.

Experience

Minimum 3 years working directly with advanced metrology equipment.

Travel & flexibility

• Trips may include multiple overnights and occasional weekends.

Physical demands

• Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs (team lift/mechanical assist over 50 lbs).
