Our Downtown Boise YMCA is seeking a Cross Country Coach for the youth we serve. This position is responsible for managing and developing cross country skills enhancement programs within the track/field program.
The Downtown Family YMCA opened its doors in 1964 and has since been a landmark in the Downtown Boise area. The facility has a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training systems and rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and multiple youth programming areas.
Schedule:
This is part-time positions averaging 10 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are Monday/Wednesday from 5:30-6:30pm at West Park in Nampa.
Responsibilities:
- Create an inclusive and fun environment for participants by actively engaging and building relationships with participants, parents, and coaches.
- Represent the Y at assigned sites through effective site and equipment management, knowledge of the activity or sport, and by role modeling the Y's core values.
- Create a safe environment by educating participants, parents, and volunteers using the Y voice attributes and responding swiftly to incidents when they occur.
- Provide appropriate feedback to participants, parents, and volunteers using the Y voice attributes.
- Implement leading practices and the established curriculum that helps youth achieve the five Cause Measurement goals.
- Work closely with Coordinator and Director to ensure program area operations are consistent with approved Leading Practices.
- Engage participants and volunteers to deepen their relationships in the Y cause.
Qualifications:
- Track and Field and/or Cross-Country experience required.
- Coaching experience preferred.
- Excellent human relations skills and an ability to maintain position communication with staff and members.
- Ability to address and make solid decision in emergency situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone etiquette and computer use.
- Prior experience of successful supervisor of staff and volunteer preferred.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- CPR and AED. Prerequisite upon hire - 14-day compliance period to obtain.
- First Aid. Prerequisite upon hire - 14-day compliance period to obtain.
- Safe Sports Certification attesting completion of training within 14-days of hire.
- USA Track & Field Certification preferred but not required.
