KYUMH is an agency that has been delivering help and hope for those in need for over 155 years.The Unit Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation, supervision, safety, and programming of an assigned living unit within the Caminos Shelter Program. This position provides direct supervision to Youth Care Associates and ensures compliance with Kentucky United Methodist Homes (KYUMH), Board of Child Care, and Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Unit Supervisor promotes a trauma-informed, culturally responsive environment that supports the safety, well-being, stabilization, and successful adjustment of unaccompanied children.Serving as the primary leadership presence within the living unit, the Unit Supervisor provides daily coaching, guidance, and mentorship to direct care staff through ongoing observation, weekly Cottage Meetings, and monthly supervision. This position is responsible for maintaining high-quality programming, fostering a safe and therapeutic milieu, and ensuring staff consistently implement trauma-informed practices that support positive youth development and recovery from complex trauma.The Unit Supervisor is also responsible for monitoring operational compliance within the assigned unit through routine quality assurance activities, including weekly audits of activity logs, review of off-campus activity requests and safety assessments, and verification that programming adheres to ORR requirements. Through daily walk-throughs of living units, bedrooms, and common areas, the Unit Supervisor ensures environments remain clean, organized, child-safe, and welcoming, promoting both physical safety and a sense of belonging for the youth served.
RequiredTwo (2) years of education from a college or university and two (2) years of experience in a child-caring facility;
or High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in a child-caring facility.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in a Human Services related field. Bilingual English/Spanish.
Candidates will be required to:- Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Submit to federal and state background and fingerprint checks.
- Submit to pre‑employment and random drug screenings.
- Maintain required trainings including CPR/First Aid and Safe Crisis Management.
- Maintain ORR‑required vaccinations.
Work EnvironmentThis position operates within both a professional office setting and a residential care environment serving unaccompanied children. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment and requires active engagement within client living areas.
