Job Summary
Our yard hands support daily yard operations by assisting the dispatcher with material handling, organization, and general maintenance. This role requires hands-on work in the yard and periodic delivery of materials to jobsites. They play a key role in keeping yard operations running safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Yard Operations Support
- Assist the dispatcher with organizing, stocking, and maintaining yard inventory
- Stock pine daily
- Load and unload materials, and supplies safely and efficiently from vendor trucks and on to customer trailers and vehicles
- Prepare materials for delivery or pickup according to sales tickets
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe yard environment
- Perform basic equipment checks and report issues to the dispatcher
- Follow established procedures for material handling and yard safety
Delivery & Jobsite Support
- Accompany or operate company vehicles to deliver materials to jobsites as needed
- Assist with loading, securing, and unloading materials at jobsites
- Communicate professionally with customers
- Ensure deliveries are completed accurately and on schedule
- Complete basic delivery paperwork and electronic documentation
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged materials, or incidents promptly
General Duties
- Assist with yard maintenance tasks such as sweeping, snow removal, and organizing storage areas
- Perform other duties as assigned by the dispatcher or store manager
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials
- Basic knowledge of construction materials or yard operations a plus
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Frequent lifting, bending, standing, and walking
- Ability to climb on and around equipment and trucks safely
Work Environment
- Outdoor yard and jobsite settings
- Exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures
