Blue Ridge Community College is recruiting for a Writing Tutor. This is an approximate 20-hour per week position. This is a part-time wage position, limited to 1500 hours within a 12-month period, with no benefits. There is potential eligibility for educational assistance for BRCC classes and job-related training and/or certifications.

Job duties:

  • Provide one-to-one, small group, and/or classroom tutoring services of exceptional quality on a walk-in or scheduled basis
  • Integrate effective study and learning strategies, added to subject-area instruction
  • Exhibit a positive attitude toward student efforts, and provide consistent feedback to students on progress
  • Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions
  • Protect student confidentiality, at all times
  • Provide coverage to the library circulation desk as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Final grade of B or higher from an accredited college or university in the class to be tutored
  • Ability to effectively conduct tutoring sessions, both virtually and in person
  • Dependability and responsiveness
  • Desire to help students and to maximize their potential for academic progress
  • Highest level of professionalism
  • Ability to be creative in learning methodology
  • Understanding and empathetic to student challenges

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with Zoom or another video conferencing platform
  • Tutoring or teaching experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience in an academic environment
  • Familiarity with EAB Navigate
  • Related experience, education or training
