This position is located in Wright, WY. The GEAR UP Wyoming Academic Coach will be responsible for advising/mentoring GEAR UP students in 7-12 grades at Wright Jr./Sr. High school, serving as a point of contact with program participants, including their families. Additional duties include providing monthly programming and resources to help students learn about postsecondary education options, promoting a college-going mind-set and providing academic support. This position will also act as a liaison and represent the NWCCD GEAR UP program at Wright Jr./Sr. High School, maintaining program enrollment and negotiating access and arrangements for programming within the school.

Note: There is opportunity to work in the summer if desired.

Reports To GEAR UP Site Coordinator Education/Qualifications

  • Associate degree required, bachelor's degree preferred
  • Background check and child abuse clearances required before entering school
  • Ability to promote a college-going culture
  • Ability to speak Spanish not required, but is desirable

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Microsoft Office Suite and Remind 101
  • Ability to manage workload independently and communicate with supervisor
  • Creative, flexible, resourceful, imaginative, and self-motivated
  • Knowledge of working with low-income youth and families
  • Ability to work with 7th-12th grade students
  • Ability to deliver GEAR UP Programming on a monthly basis, during the school year.
  • High ethical standards and great communication skills with a wide variety of people
  • Great listening skills
  • Ability to relate to students, parents, and school employees and administration
  • Ability to maintain accurate, auditable records of GEAR UP services provided

Experience

Job Duties

Academic Coaching/advising/service delivery. May include homework help.

Assisting with identification and selection of program participants and promoting GEAR UP in the community, including managing social media pages.
