    The Appleton Area School District has a boys'' Wrestling Head coaching position available at Appleton West High School for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a one-year-only position.

    The Head Boys Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading, structuring, and overseeing all aspects of the wrestling program. This role focuses on developing student-athletes'' fundamental techniques, physical conditioning, discipline, and sportsmanship while fostering a safe and competitive team culture.

    Term: November - February

    Key Responsibilities & Duties:

    • Instruction & Athletic Development:

    • Design and execute daily practice plans emphasizing foundational skills, advanced technique, wrestling strategy, and physical fitness.

    • Assess individual athlete skill levels, set performance goals, and provide constructive instruction in a positive environment.

    • Prioritize athlete safety, proper weight management practices, and injury prevention protocol during all training sessions and competitions.

    • Match & Event Operations:

    • Attend and supervise all scheduled home and away dual meets, tournaments, and postseason events.

    • Oversee match day preparation, including lineup strategies, weigh-ins, and post-match performance reviews.

    • Supervise student-athletes during travel to and from away events to maintain conduct expectations.

    • Program Leadership & Administration:

    • Collaborate directly with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, roster management, equipment inventory, budget usage, and facility usage.

    • Delegate tasks to and mentor assistant wrestling coaches to ensure unified instructional methods across all team levels (e.g., Varsity, JV, Middle School/Freshman).

    • Ensure full compliance with all district policies, athletic league regulations, and state high school athletic association guidelines.

    • Communication & Student Growth:

    • Actively support student-athletes in maintaining academic eligibility and embodying good sportsmanship on and off the mat.

    • Maintain clear, professional communication with athletes, parents/guardians, and school administrators regarding expectations, schedules, and program updates.

    Qualifications:

    • Prior wrestling coaching experience at the high school, middle school, or collegiate level (or significant personal wrestling experience).
    • Thorough knowledge of current wrestling rules, weight certification protocols, and safety standards.
    • Required state athletic coaching certifications, CPR/First Aid/AED certification, and mandatory safety training (e.g., Concussion & Sudden Cardiac Arrest awareness).
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
