Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Working Supervisor to lead and manage our hollow metal door and frame manufacturing operations in Longwood, FL. This role combines shop floor leadership with operational coordination, including production scheduling, vendor communication, customer interaction, and project support. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can work alongside the team while ensuring jobs are properly planned, executed, and delivered on time and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Shop Management
-Supervise daily hollow metal door and frame manufacturing operations
-Schedule production to meet customer deadlines and optimize workflow
-Lead by example as a working supervisor (fabricating, welding, assisting team as needed)
-Ensure quality standards are met across all products
-Monitor productivity, identify bottlenecks, and improve efficiency
Project Coordination & Scheduling
-Review project specifications, drawings, and scope requirements
-Plan and stage jobs for production, ensuring materials and labor are aligned
-Coordinate timelines from order intake through production and shipment
-Prioritize jobs based on deadlines and customer needs
Vendor & Material Management
-Communicate with material suppliers and manufacturers to: Source materials, Confirm lead times, Resolve supply issues
-Ensure material availability aligns with production schedules
Customer & Internal Communication
-Communicate with customers regarding: Order status, Lead times, Technical questions or clarifications
-Collaborate with sales and management teams to ensure project success
Estimating & Quoting Support
-Assist in quoting projects, including: Material takeoffs, Labor estimates, Reviewing specifications and drawings
-Provide input on production feasibility and timelines
Shipping & Order Fulfillment
-Oversee staging and preparation of completed orders for shipment
-Ensure accuracy of orders prior to delivery or pickup
-Coordinate logistics with shipping teams or carriers
Qualifications
-5+ years of experience in commercial door, hollow metal, or related metal fabrication industry
-Prior supervisory or lead experience in a manufacturing environment
-Strong understanding of hollow metal doors and frames
-Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
-Experience with production scheduling and workflow management
-Knowledge of welding and fabrication processes (MIG preferred)
-Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
-Effective communication skills with vendors, customers, and internal teams
Preferred Skills
-Experience quoting/estimating in the commercial door industry
-Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., SDI – Steel Door Institute)
-Experience with ERP or job tracking systems
-Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
