Overview
We are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Representative to serve as the primary workers' compensation claims professional at a manufacturing plant location. This role is responsible for managing a full caseload of workers' compensation claims with a strong focus on customer service, quality claim handling, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective claim resolution.
The ideal candidate will have experience handling Illinois Workers' Compensation Lost Time claims, performing investigations, managing reserves, coordinating vendors and legal resources, and driving claims through closure while maintaining strong relationships with employees, leadership, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full caseload of Illinois Workers' Compensation claims, including complex and higher-severity cases.
- Investigate claims and gather information to determine exposure, compensability, and claim strategy.
- Develop and execute action plans to ensure timely and cost-effective claim resolution.
- Establish, review, and adjust claim reserves throughout the life of each claim.
- Calculate and issue benefit payments and claim adjustments within authority guidelines.
- Prepare and submit all required state filings within statutory deadlines.
- Coordinate with vendors, medical providers, attorneys, and investigators as needed.
- Utilize cost containment strategies to reduce overall claim expenses.
- Manage claim recoveries including subrogation, Second Injury Fund recoveries, and Medicare/Social Security offsets.
- Report eligible claims to excess carriers.
- Maintain accurate claim documentation, coding, and file management.
- Communicate regularly with claimants, plant leadership, HR, and external partners regarding claim status and next steps.
- Escalate complex or high-risk situations to management when appropriate.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 3-5 years of Illinois Workers' Compensation claims handling experience.
- Experience handling Workers' Compensation Lost Time claims.
- Strong knowledge of claims investigation, reserving, benefit administration, and settlement practices.
- Ability to independently manage a full caseload.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or plant-based environments.
- Experience with litigation management, subrogation, and claim recovery programs.
- Background working for a TPA, insurance carrier, or self-insured employer.
