Workers’ Compensation Defense Senior Associate Attorney: Remote

Riley Defense Firm PC is a California law firm practicing workers’ compensation defense exclusively. We represent insurance carriers, third-party administrators and self-insured employers throughout California. We’re adding an experienced defense attorney to handle complex files.

Why attorneys join us

  • Complex, trial-level work. You’ll handle the firm’s most involved files and work directly with the Managing Attorney on strategy.
  • Remote-based practice. Work remotely on a firm-managed laptop in a fully paperless environment.
  • In-house clinical support. Our clinical team assists with complex medical record review, so your time goes to legal strategy and advocacy.
  • Bonus opportunities on top of base salary.
  • A role in building the firm. You’ll join early enough to help shape how the firm practices as it grows.
What you’ll do

  • Handle assigned complex and litigated workers’ compensation defense files, reporting directly to the Managing Attorney
  • Try cases and handle contested hearings at the WCAB
  • Take and defend depositions of applicants and medical-legal witnesses, including QMEs and AMEs
  • Develop defense strategy on causation, apportionment, permanent disability and medical issues
  • Prepare early case assessments and status reports that give clients a clear path to resolution
  • Draft petitions, trial briefs, objections and settlement documents
  • Negotiate resolutions within client authority
What we’re looking for

  • Active member of the State Bar of California, in good standing
  • 4+ years of California workers’ compensation experience, with defense experience strongly preferred
  • WCAB trial experience
  • Strong medical-legal analysis and the judgment to handle complex files with minimal supervision
  • Clear, concise writing and a habit of keeping clients informed
  • Appearances and depositions at California WCAB district offices are assigned as needed and may require travel. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Compensation and benefits

  • Base salary plus bonus eligibility
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with a 4% employer match after four months
  • Flexible paid time off and front-loaded paid sick leave
  • 10 paid holidays
