 Established and well-known Florida based insurance companyis currently seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Attorney for a Staff Counsel position on their team.  This is an in-house counsel position, is full-time and on site in Coral Gables, Florida.

 

The ideal candidate is a Florida licensed attorney with 5-10 years’ experience in insurance defense and workers’ compensation as they will be expected to defend high exposure workers’ compensation claims. Medical deposition, hearing/trial and litigation docket management experience is required.  The Staff Counsel will be responsible for all aspects of the workers’ compensation case, including but not limited to, evaluating the merits of a workers’ compensation case, providing guidance and counsel through effective communication, medical review and negotiating, settling, and litigating cases, if necessary.

 

The successful candidate should possess strong negotiation and communication skills, a firm understanding of Florida workers’ compensation law, an ability to handle a large caseload, and effective leadership skills.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Abilitytoindependentlymanageafullcaseloadofworkers’compensation cases of varying degrees of complexity from case inception through trial/resolution.
  • Litigatecasestoverdict,demonstratingsuperioruseoftrialskillsand techniques.
  • Independentlydraftpleadings,motions,briefs,discoveryandotherfile documents.
  • Attendcourtevents,depositions,hearingsandotherappointments independently.
  • Providerecommendationsandcaseanalysistodepartmentheadon appropriate file handling strategy.
  • Integratelegalsupportstaffintocasehandlingprocess.
  • Provideadviceandtrainingtoclaimpartnersandclients.
  • Createandmaintainsoftwaredocumentation.

 

Requirements:

  • Must have a Juris Doctor degree andbe actively licensed in good standing with theStateBarofFlorida.
  • Must have 5-10yearsofworkers’compensation experience.
  • Must be Extremelydetailoriented,self-motivated,anddisciplined.
  • Must have a demonstratedtrackrecordoftrialskillsandtechniques.
  • Must have the abilitytoworkinapaperlessenvironment.
