Client-Side Workday Financials Project Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Client-Side Workday Financials Project Manager to provide leadership and oversight for a Workday implementation, with the initial phase focused on Workday Financial Management.

This individual will serve as a key liaison between Finance leadership, internal business and technology teams, Workday, and the implementation partner. The role will be responsible for maintaining alignment across scope, timeline, budget, key decisions, risks, and overall delivery while ensuring the implementation remains focused on the organization's business objectives.

Given the initial focus on Financial Management, the ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of finance and accounting processes along with prior experience supporting or leading Workday Financials implementations. This individual should be comfortable working directly with CFO-level stakeholders while also engaging with functional and technical delivery teams to evaluate requirements, facilitate design decisions, and understand the downstream impact of configuration choices.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary client-side project management lead for the Workday Financials implementation.

• Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and FP&A leadership to understand business requirements, priorities, and desired outcomes.

• Facilitate alignment between business requirements and Workday Financials design decisions, helping stakeholders understand dependencies, options, and tradeoffs.

• Coordinate activities across key financial areas including Financial Accounting, Foundation Data Model (FDM), general ledger, financial close, financial reporting, budgeting and planning, procurement, and expenses.

• Establish and maintain client-side project governance, including status reporting, RAID management, decision tracking, escalation processes, and stakeholder communication.

• Manage project scope, timeline, budget, milestones, and internal resource commitments.

• Coordinate activities across internal teams, Workday, the implementation partner, and other stakeholders to ensure responsibilities and dependencies remain aligned.

• Provide oversight of testing activities, including end-to-end testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), defect management, and readiness for deployment.

• Coordinate data conversion, validation, reconciliation, and cutover activities in partnership with Finance, IT, and implementation teams.

• Support change readiness, training, communications, and adoption activities for Finance and other impacted user groups.

• Identify and escalate risks, resource constraints, competing priorities, and decisions that may impact project delivery.

• Provide leadership with clear visibility into project health, upcoming milestones, key decisions, and areas requiring attention.

• Partner with the implementation provider to ensure delivery remains aligned with agreed-upon milestones, quality expectations, and business objectives.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading or managing enterprise Workday Financials implementations.

• Strong understanding of finance and accounting processes and their relationship to Workday Financial Management.

• Experience working with areas such as general ledger, chart of accounts/FDM, financial close, financial reporting, budgeting and planning, procurement, and expenses.

• Ability to effectively engage both Finance leadership and Workday functional and technical teams.

• Experience translating business requirements into implementation priorities and facilitating functional design decisions.

• Strong project management experience across scope, schedule, budget, governance, risk and issue management, and stakeholder communication.

• Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex initiatives involving multiple business functions, technical teams, and third-party implementation partners.

• Strong executive communication, facilitation, and decision-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Workday Financials certification and/or hands-on Workday Financials configuration experience.

• Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning or broader FP&A processes.

• Experience supporting data conversion, testing, cutover, and go-live activities within a Workday Financials implementation.
