Title Work Study Residential Safety Assistant Position Description
Residence Life & Housing provides a safe, inclusive, & quality residential experience where access to programs, services, & staff fosters a sense of community in an environment conducive to learning.
The Residential Safety Assistant (RSAs) will be expected to work a minimum of about 10 hours each week during the academic year when school is in session. Typical hours consist of shifts between 5pm and 2am. RSAs should expect to work weekends and late shifts. Subject to change based on departmental needs.
RSAs will be responsible for the following:
- Provide solid customer service and develop community in the residence halls through positive interactions with resident students, guests, and staff.
- Ensure safety and security in the residence halls through checking and identification of all persons entering the residence hall and registering guests of resident students.
- Enforce university and RLH policies while reporting any violations. Students will also perform lockouts while on duty, assist with work order submissions, and provide general assistance to the security program.
- Attend all required Departmental trainings, including but not limited to, August & January Trainings prior to the start of the semester.
- Check BSU email and Teams daily.
- Learning and utilizing technology, including but not limited to, Microsoft products, card access systems, and Maxient Reporting.
Additional Notes on RSA Position:
- All RSAs work during nights, weekends, major campus events, some holidays, and during inclement weather.
- All RSAs are expected to contribute in picking up shifts that become vacant as much as possible.
- All RSAs are student leaders and are expected to follow the students code of conduct and any RLH policies at all times, even when off shift. This includes The Family Rights and Privacy Acts and maintaining sensitive student information.
- All RSAs are to conduct themselves in a professional manner including but not limited to: wearing nametag and uniform when on shift, being on time for all shifts, working collaboratively with all university staff, submitting their timesheets by the deadline, and fulfilling all job responsibilities.
- All RSAs are expected to prioritize the RSA position as a job while proactively communicating any schedule conflicts, including requests for shift coverage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Must be in satisfactory disciplinary status as determined by the Office of Residence Life and Housing
- Must possess good communication and customer service skills
- Previous or current on-campus living experience or similar preferred, but not required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to exercise sound and appropriate judgment
- Ability to effectively handle difficult situations
Physical Demands
Being able to sit for extended periods of times while maintaining focus.
