Title Work Study Peer Liaison - Mentor Position Description

Department Information:

BSU's Pride Center offers a variety of services and resources throughout the semester for students looking for a place to hang out, learn about gender and sexuality, or get involved in campus life at BSU. The Pride Center also hosts educational workshops, social gatherings, and marquee events like our annual Lavender Graduation ceremony. All services and resources provided by the Pride Center are open and accessible to all BSU students.

Position Information:

A PRIDE 365 Peer Mentor is a full-time undergraduate student at Bridgewater State University who is interested in developing and applying their leadership skills while serving as a key support for a cohort of LGBTQIA+ first-year students. In this role, peer mentors provide guidance, connection, and access to resources to help students successfully transition into college.

Through fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, PRIDE 365 Peer Mentors contribute to a strong sense of belonging and empowerment for LGBTQIA+ students. Mentors are expected to work an average of 6 hours per week.

During the fall semester, mentors focus on building consistent connections with their assigned mentees through weekly outreach and engagement. They also collaborate on planning programs and initiatives designed to support first-year students in navigating the transition to college life.

During the spring semester, mentors transition to a broader role that includes monthly check-ins with mentees, along with supporting initiatives and engagement efforts that serve the wider Pride Center community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct weekly direct outreach to a cohort of first-year LGBTQIA+ and ally students during their initial fall semester transition from high school to college.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contact logs documenting check-ins with each mentee.
  • Provide guidance and connect students to campus resources that support academic success and personal well-being.
  • Plan and facilitate social and educational workshops or programs.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and actively contribute to team discussions.
  • Assist with additional Peer Liaison responsibilities, including greeting Pride Center guests, staffing the Pride Center and its events, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package
