Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Windows Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team responsible for enterprise Windows endpoint engineering, delivery, and operational support. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with people leadership and ownership of a large-scale end-user computing environment.
The manager will oversee Windows endpoint management, operating system lifecycle activities, device provisioning, endpoint security, platform modernization, automation, and service reliability. The role supports a large hybrid workforce and requires close collaboration with infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, and enterprise operations teams.
This position is well suited for a technical leader who can establish engineering standards, develop team members, improve operational processes, and guide strategic endpoint initiatives while maintaining a secure and reliable user experience.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a distributed team of approximately 8–10 desktop engineers and technicians.
- Own the engineering and operational health of enterprise Windows endpoint services.
- Establish priorities, engineering standards, support processes, and performance expectations.
- Direct Windows device provisioning, operating system deployment, imaging, troubleshooting, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Oversee Microsoft SCCM/MECM and Intune environments, including application delivery, compliance, patch management, and co-management.
- Guide modernization efforts involving technologies such as Windows 365 Cloud PC, Windows Autopilot, and Intune-first endpoint management.
- Lead major Windows operating system migration and upgrade initiatives.
- Drive automation of endpoint provisioning, configuration, administration, and support processes.
- Ensure endpoint platforms meet security, compliance, reliability, and business requirements.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams on encryption, EDR, identity controls, endpoint hardening, and related security initiatives.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and networking teams on VPN, LAN/Wi-Fi, DNS/DHCP, and other technologies affecting endpoint performance.
- Oversee virtual desktop and remote computing technologies and their integration with enterprise endpoint services.
- Develop enterprise testing approaches, pilot programs, proofs of concept, and technical evaluations.
- Evaluate endpoint technologies and vendors using technical findings and operational data.
- Monitor platform health and service performance while identifying opportunities to improve stability and the end-user experience.
- Support device lifecycle, automation, endpoint modernization, and other strategic workplace technology programs.
- Promote accountability, technical development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the engineering team.
Required Qualifications- At least 6 years of IT engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise desktop engineering, end-user computing, or a closely related discipline, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong hands-on Windows engineering experience within large enterprise environments.
- Advanced experience with Windows OS deployment, imaging, troubleshooting, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SCCM/MECM and Microsoft Intune.
- Experience with application/software distribution, endpoint compliance, patch management, and co-management architectures.
- Strong understanding of virtual desktop technologies such as Citrix, VMware Horizon, or Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Experience automating endpoint operations with PowerShell, Python, or comparable scripting technologies.
- Knowledge of zero-touch provisioning and automated configuration management.
- Strong understanding of endpoint security, including encryption, EDR, identity controls, and system hardening.
- Working knowledge of endpoint-related networking technologies, including LAN/Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, and DHCP.
- Experience developing testing strategies, managing pilot programs, and conducting vendor or technology proofs of concept.
- Leadership experience supporting thousands of endpoints across multiple sites and hybrid work environments.
- Direct experience with modern endpoint initiatives such as Windows 365 Cloud PC, Windows Autopilot, Intune-first management, or large Windows OS migrations.
- Demonstrated success improving end-user computing through automation, analytics, or modernized support practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting technology environments within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience working within environments with rigorous compliance, security, and service-availability requirements.
- Experience managing relationships with hardware manufacturers, software vendors, and technology service providers.
- Exposure to technology budgeting, software licensing optimization, vendor contracts, and financial management.
