Position Overview The Parks and Recreation Youth Ball Hockey League Coordinator/Referee is responsible for coordinating and officiating youth ball hockey games in a safe, fair, and positive environment. This position will ensure that games are played according to league rules while promoting good sportsmanship among players, coaches, and spectators. This position plays a key role in creating an enjoyable and development-focused experience for youth participants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and officiate youth ball hockey games in accordance with league rules and Parks and Recreation policies
  • Ensure player safety by enforcing rules consistently and addressing unsafe behavior
  • Start and stop games on time and manage game flow
  • Make fair, impartial decisions during gameplay
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with players, coaches, and fellow officials
  • Promote sportsmanship and positive conduct at all times
  • Report injuries, incidents, or disciplinary actions to Parks and Recreation staff
  • Assist with basic setup and takedown of equipment as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 16+ years old
  • Knowledge of ball hockey/ice hockey rules (training may be provided)
  • Ability to work with children and teens in a positive, supportive manner
  • Strong communication and conflict-management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous officiating or playing experience in ice hockey or ball hockey
  • Experience working with youth programs
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Supplemental Information Work Environment

  • Outdoor recreational facilities
  • Moderate physical activity, including running and standing for extended periods
