Position Title Wellness Center Technician (Graduate Assistant) Academic Year 2026-2027 UIW Mission

Position Summary
The Wellness Center Technician (Graduate Assistant) for the Wellness Center is the technician supervisor and is responsible for completing maintenance and repairs of equipment and facility Wellness Center. Duties for this position include daily cleaning of facility, equipment, and dressing rooms and overseeing technician staff. The Wellness Center Technician (Graduate Assistant) reports to the Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include:
- Complete scheduled walkthrough as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness.
- Schedule repairs and maintenance (outsourced and in-house).
- Schedule student technician staff.
- Supervise the student technician staff.
- Assist the Assistant Director and Director in the interview process of student technician staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Good customer relation and service skills.
- Ability to work in a team and as an individual in a self-paced, task-oriented environment.
- Very detail-oriented.
- Ability to be organized and cleanly.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Ability to understand fitness equipment and how to make basic repairs.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Current UIW graduate student.
Required Work Experience
- One (1) or more years of work experience in the fitness and wellness industry.
- Working knowledge of fitness equipment and tools.
- Supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
None.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Current CPR and First Aid Certification (if expired, must be completed within 3 months of employment)
Work Hours
- Hours are flexible with work completed during open facility hours.
- Must be available openings, weekends and evenings and be on-call as duties required.
- Will be required to cover holiday and school break schedules as required by the Director and Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness.
- Required to work 20 hours per week.
Physical Demands
This position requires manual labor with the ability to lift 50 pounds.

One of the leading comprehensive universities in Texas, the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio strives to educate men and women who will become concerned and enlightened citizens with values developed in a Judeo-Christian tradition. In 1881 the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded Incarnate Word College as a center of higher education for young women. The college was admitted to membership in the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1919, and joined the Texas Association of Colleges as a senior college in 1920. The Graduate Studies division was established in 1950. Male students were first admitted into the college's undergraduate programs in 1970. Incarnate Word College became the University of the Incarnate Word in 1996. Today, UIW is a Hispanic-Serving Institution under federal guidelines.
UIW is the largest Catholic university in Texas and the fourth-largest private university in the state. The enrollment reflects the diversity of South Texas, as more than 60 percent of the students are from racial or ethnic minority groups. UIW is ranked No. 1 nationally among faith-based universities in the conferring of bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics by the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine, and No. 6 nationally among all private, not-for-profit universities.
