    Description

Lead the Rhythm of a Modern Weld Shop

Reporting to the Production Manager, you’ll guide the pulse of our manufacturing floor with primary ownership of the Weld Department. From MIG and TIG stations to robotic cells, you orchestrate people, processes, and equipment to meet output, quality, safety, and delivery goals—while partnering closely with assembly, testing, and finishing to keep work flowing.

    A Day in the Life

You start with a quick stand-up: review yesterday’s output, rework, and on-time delivery. You rebalance labor across welding booths and robotic cells to eliminate bottlenecks and protect throughput. With Planning, you confirm the schedule; with Quality and Maintenance, you tackle any open issues. Throughout the shift, you monitor performance metrics—output, efficiency, and rework—and course-correct in real time.

    Your Focus Areas

    Production & Scheduling

    • Supervise daily production with primary responsibility for weld operations.
    • Ensure schedules are met across manual booths, robotic cells, and downstream processes.
    • Balance labor and workflow to remove constraints and maintain steady throughput.
    • Partner with Planning, Quality, and Maintenance to resolve production challenges.
    • Track and report output, efficiency, rework, and on-time delivery each day.

    Weld Department Oversight

    • Champion weld quality initiatives alongside Quality and CWI personnel.
    • Oversee setup and operation of MIG, TIG, and robotic welding systems.
    • Increase arc-on time, reduce rework, and optimize utilization of each weld cell.
    • Troubleshoot welding processes and drive effective corrective actions.

    Quality & Compliance

    • Promote adherence to company standards and applicable codes (AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.).
    • Ensure first-article inspections and in-process checks are completed.
    • Lead non-conformance containment and corrective actions within the department.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and production records.

    Safety & Environmental

    • Reinforce OSHA and company safety policies at all times.
    • Verify proper PPE use and safe welding practices.
    • Monitor ventilation and fume extraction systems in weld areas.
    • Hold regular safety meetings and address hazards promptly.

    Leadership & Team Management

    • Supervise, coach, and develop welders and operators.
    • Support hiring, onboarding, and training efforts.
    • Conduct performance evaluations with continuous feedback.
    • Manage scheduling, attendance, overtime, and staffing levels.

    Cross-Functional Impact

You collaborate with assembly, testing, and finishing to ensure smooth handoffs and reliable delivery performance. Your leadership advances operational efficiency, workforce development, and continuous improvement—all while sustaining a safe, productive work environment.
