An independent oilfield services company is seeking a Weiler Machinist to operate precision manual machinery in support of downhole tool production. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled machinist with strong threading experience, especially in API oilfield tapered threads and Acme variants. Working with minimal supervision, the new team member will support production timelines by setting up and operating Weiler equipment accurately while ensuring close-tolerance machining, safety, and product conformity.
Salary: $26-30/hr Location: Houston, TX 77092 Type of Position:Temp-to-Hire Hours: M-F 1st Shift (6 am-2:30 pm)
Responsibilities:
Review blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations and/or set up requirements.
Identify, produce, and gauge a variety of straight and taper threads, including Acme and buttress.
Measure, mark, and otherwise indicate the dimensions and reference points on the part or material to be used as guides for subsequent machining.
Select, align, and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines to include mills, lathes and grinders.
Calculate and set controls to regulate various machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut.
Start and observe machine operations to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust the machine controls or control media as necessary.
Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
Confer with production personnel, engineers or others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
Maintain clean and orderly work area.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
One-year certificate from a college or technical school with a minimum of three (3) years running Weiler machines; minimum of five (5) years work experience in lieu of certificate running Weiler machines is acceptable
Must be able to accurately program and set up machine tools within Weiler Sinumerik operating system
Must have API oilfield tapered threading experience (Buttress, IF, 8 round etc.) as well as experience cutting Acme, Stub Acme, and other straight and tapered threads
Experience with threads (rotary connections, i.e. IF threads)
Own toolbox and tools
Be able to work with close tolerances
Familiar with Mori Seki with Fanuc controls
Threading experience should include: API i.e. Rotary shoulder connections, buttress, etc.

Ability to enhance engineering drawings as they pertain to machining

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering and science, properties of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques of maximizing effective manufacturing of goods

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings as they pertain to machining of inflatable packers or related downhole tools
Must have own tools adequate to perform job. Must have proven past knowledge of Weiler machines
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write and/or complete routine reports
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as angles, lengths, diameters in decimals and fractions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
