Position Summary

The Web Designer is responsible for the development and maintenance of websites for ACCS projects. The incumbent will be responsible for performing day-to-day website administration, helping maintain company standards for design, performing navigation and browser compatibility tests, performing quality-control for internal and external content, and maintenance of key web applications. The position will require assisting in the development of website enhancements, updating content, and assisting in the redevelopment and maintenance of the Alabama Community College System's Internet / Intranet websites.

The incumbent will also be required to perform duties as it relates to Desktop Publisher to include but not limited to complex publishing projects, both printed and electronic, that include the formatting, alignment, and setup of text on published materials as well as integrating and creating graphics like photos, charts, and artwork into published materials. Additional responsibilities will include manipulating graphics and text using a wide variety of electronic printing and computer software applications that are used specifically for print publication and electronic document creation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with Marketing & Creative Teams: Translate marketing goals into functional digital experiences such as landing pages for enrollment campaigns, program promotions, and institutional initiatives, Work closely with designers and content creators to implement brand-consistent layouts, typography, and interactive elements, Support content teams by building templates, improving publishing workflows, and advising on web best practices, Participate in campaign planning by providing technical insight on feasibility, timelines, and digital opportunities, Receive and coordinate information from relevant departments for website and publishing projects.

  • Digital Strategy, Analytics & Optimization: Implement on-page SEO best practices including metadata, structured content, and schema markup where appropriate, Monitor website performance and analytics using tools such as Google Analytics and Tag Manager, Conduct A/B testing and recommend improvements to increase engagement and conversions such as inquiries, applications, and event registrations, Implement campaign tracking using UTM parameters and event tracking.

  • Accessibility, Compliance & Governance: Ensure all web content meets accessibility standards (WCAG and ADA guidelines), including alt text, semantic structure, and keyboard navigation, Maintain consistency with institutional brand, design, and editorial standards across all web properties, Support governance and documentation efforts by defining best practices and standards for distributed content editors.

  • Technical & Administrative Support: Manage CMS user permissions and provide support or training to internal content editors, Coordinate with IT on hosting, security updates, and system integrations, Support integrations with third-party platforms such as CRM systems, form builders, chatbots, event platforms, and marketing tools, Maintain an inventory of photos and digital assets used on websites and publishing projects, Examine submitted images and materials to determine suitability for web or print publishing, Prepare electronic files for proofing, presentation, and final print production when needed, Document processes, code snippets, and workflows to support team knowledge and operational continuity.

  • Reporting & Project Management: Review website statistics and performance data to maintain optimal functionality, Track and report the status and progress of assigned tasks to ensure deadlines are met, Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • 3-5 years' experience in website development, creation and maintenance.
  • 2+ years of desktop publishing experience (can be contract work).
  • Must furnish portfolio of work (Print or Electronic).
  • Ability to work full time and on site.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient on the Mac Operating Systems.
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Keynote, Excel, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Muse, WordPress, Joomla or other CMS platforms.

PREFERRED

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or equivalent

Sick Leave

Personal Leave

All full-time, part-time, or temporary employees who are employed by the State of Alabama on January 1, and who are stationed outside of Mobile and Baldwin Counties, are entitled to a personal leave day each year in lieu of the former Mardi Gras holiday. The System Office policy requires that employees schedule their personal leave day prior to scheduling any annual leave.

Retirement

The Alabama Community College System participates in the Retirement Systems of Alabama Teachers Retirement System. Teachers Retirement System is a state-mandated program where a percentage of your salary is withheld per pay period for an individual's retirement account. The percentage is determined by an employee's hire date and any prior participation in the Retirement Systems of Alabama.

Tier I (those with service credit prior to January 1, 2013): 7.5%

Tier II (those with service credit beginning on or after January 1, 2013): 6.2%

Tuition Waiver
