    Job Title: Web Accessibility Consultant
    Location: Nashville, TN (Hybrid)
    Duration: 12 Months
    Type: Contract




    Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST (37.5 hours/week)

    Job Description

    The Client is seeking an experienced Web Accessibility Consultant to support the remediation of its website, web applications, and digital content to achieve compliance with federally mandated digital accessibility standards, particularly WCAG 2.1.

    The consultant will be responsible for identifying accessibility issues, developing and implementing remediation strategies, and ensuring accessibility best practices are integrated into the Department's ongoing design, development, and publishing processes. The individual will work closely with developers, designers, communications staff, and other stakeholders to promote and maintain long-term digital accessibility compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits of websites, web applications, and digital content.
    • Identify and document accessibility issues and provide clear, practical, standards-based remediation recommendations.
    • Develop and implement solutions to address accessibility issues across web content and documents.
    • Collaborate with developers, UX/UI designers, communications teams, and stakeholders to integrate accessibility into design, development, and publishing workflows.
    • Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 and other applicable digital accessibility standards.
    • Remediate web content and digital documents to improve accessibility.
    • Use accessibility testing tools such as WAVE and Siteimprove.
    • Test websites and applications using assistive technologies, including screen readers such as NVDA.
    • Provide training and guidance to technical and non-technical staff on digital accessibility best practices.
    • Develop clear documentation of accessibility findings, remediation recommendations, and compliance requirements.
    • Support the Department in establishing sustainable accessibility processes and practices for long-term compliance.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 and web accessibility standards.
    • Experience conducting web and digital content accessibility audits.
    • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and ARIA roles/attributes.
    • Experience identifying and remediating accessibility issues.
    • Experience with web development, digital content remediation, or user experience design.
    • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as WAVE and Siteimprove.
    • Experience using assistive technologies and screen readers, particularly NVDA.
    • Ability to remediate accessible web content and digital documents.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to clearly document accessibility issues and remediation recommendations.
    • Experience training and guiding non-technical staff on accessibility best practices.
