Position Summary
The Water Truck Driver independently completes assigned watering routes for commercial and high-end residential properties using a Company water truck, hoses, watering wands, and related equipment. The role provides thorough, timely watering for seasonal color, planters, hanging baskets, shrubs, and newly installed trees; documents completed work; identifies plant or site concerns; protects people and property; and keeps the vehicle and watering equipment safe, clean, and ready.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Watering Route and Plant Care Services
- Review assigned routes, work tickets, site maps, access notes, and watering instructions in Aspire, Sitefotos, or other Company systems before beginning work.
- Drive the assigned water truck safely along established routes and complete scheduled properties within route and service-time expectations.
- Water hanging baskets, flower beds, pots, planters, seasonal color displays, shrubs, newly installed trees, and other assigned plant material thoroughly and according to site-specific instructions.
- Use hoses and watering wands to reach areas that cannot be serviced directly from the truck; fill and attach watering bags or water tree wells as assigned.
- Adjust watering technique within training and assigned instructions based on container size, plant material, drainage, recent weather, and observable site conditions; request direction when needs differ from the work ticket.
- Identify and promptly report wilting, overwatering, pests, disease symptoms, damaged plants or containers, irrigation concerns, access barriers, leaks, and other conditions requiring follow-up.
Documentation, Communication, and Customer Service - Record time, route status, completed work, exceptions, notes, and required photographs accurately and on time in Company systems.
- Communicate delays, route changes, water-supply issues, access problems, incomplete work, client concerns, property damage, and changing conditions promptly to the Production Manager or assigned contact.
- Conduct a final visual check of each serviced area, correct missed work when practical, and leave hoses, access points, and surrounding areas orderly and safe.
- Interact courteously with clients, residents, tenants, vendors, coworkers, and the public and refer scope, schedule, or service-change requests to the appropriate internal partner.
- Vehicle, Equipment, and Safety
- Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and operate the water truck only when properly trained, authorized, and qualified for the assigned vehicle.
- Fill and operate the water tank according to Company procedures; account for changing vehicle weight, load movement, stopping distance, clearance, turning radius, traffic, pedestrians, and site conditions.
- Inspect, organize, clean, and secure hoses, reels, nozzles, wands, fittings, PPE, and other assigned tools and supplies; report leaks, defects, damage, and maintenance needs promptly.
- Wear required PPE, use safe lifting and hose-handling methods, follow driving and equipment procedures, and immediately report hazards, spills, injuries, near misses, vehicle incidents, and property damage.
Qualifications and Requirements - Valid driver’s license required and ability to meet Company driving standards.
- Ability to safely operate a larger vehicle with a full water tank; a Class B commercial driver’s license is preferred and is required when the assigned vehicle or operation is subject to commercial licensing requirements.
- Previous route driving, watering, landscape, horticulture, delivery, or related field-service experience is preferred; training may be provided.
- Ability to read and follow routes, work tickets, property maps, access instructions, and plant-care directions and to work independently with limited onsite supervision.
- Ability to use mobile devices and learn Aspire, Sitefotos, or similar timekeeping, routing, photo, and service-documentation systems.
- Strong attendance, communication, time-management, observation, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to complete required vehicle, equipment, safety, and job-specific training before independent operation.

- Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, push, pull, and work with hands for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or approved lifting methods.
- Work outdoors in changing conditions, including heat, cold, sun, wind, rain, dust, noise, uneven terrain, traffic, and insects.
- Wear required PPE and work flexible or extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime, as project schedules, weather, and business needs require.
- Frequently enter and exit the water truck, climb approved access steps, handle hoses and watering equipment, and work around traffic, pedestrians, wet surfaces, and active properties.
- Safely perform assigned duties while the vehicle’s handling, stopping distance, and center of gravity change as water is used or added.
