JOB TITLE Water Meter Technician Level II

DEFINITION Water Meter Technician II reports to the Crew Supervisor and Water Distribution Superintendent. A water meter technician installs repairs and maintains residential and commercial water meters responding to service orders for issues like leaks and non -working meters. Key duties include testing and calibrating meters performing meter replacements reading meters and interacting with customers about their service and billing. This role requires physical fitness and often involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and traffic as well as following safety procedures for confined spaces.

Duties and responsibilities • Installation and maintenance Installs new water meters and connections for residential and commercial customers. This includes replacing testing and calibrating meters to ensure accurate water usage readings.

• Troubleshooting and repair Diagnoses and repairs issues such as leaks breaks and malfunctions in water meters and service lines. This may involve using specialized tools and equipment to address problems and conducting field tests.

• They may also be responsible for programming installing and troubleshooting automated meter reading AMR devices.

• Customer service Communicates with customers regarding their water service meter readings or billing inquiries. This includes explaining procedures for shut -offs high -usage tests and repairs.

• Service connection and disconnection Turns water service on and off for customers property plumbing repairs.

• Field inspection and safety Inspects meters for signs of damage tampering or unauthorized connections. The role requires following strict safety procedures especially when working in confined spaces around traffic or with hazardous materials.

• Record keeping Maintains accurate daily work logs meter reports and service records often using a computer or specialized software.

Qualifications and requirements • Experience Previous experience in meter repair plumbing or general construction is often preferred.

• Licensing A valid drivers license is necessary. This may also require a specialized water certification such as a Class I or Class II Water Distribution certification to be obtained within a set timeframe after being hired in this position. Exceptional if grandfathered according to city of Monroe.

• Skills The ability to work independently communicate effectively operate hand and power tools and use computer equipment is essential.

• Physical demands The job requires physical strength and stamina for sustained manual labor including walking climbing bending and lifting heavy materials up to 50 lbs..

• Working conditions Technicians work primarily outdoors in all types of weather conditions and may be exposed to unpleasant or hazardous environments like confined spaces excessive noise and dirt.

EDUCATION CERTIFICATION

Education A high school diploma or GED is typically required. Unless otherwise grandfathered in by the city of Monroe. Have the option to obtain Class IV Certification in Water Distribution from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Must maintain the hours to keep this certification.

LICENSES Must have a valid state issued drivers l icense.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS 10 years experience in this position.
