Starting Range: $37,652 - $56,008 (salary based on qualifications and experience).

This position rides with and assists the Water Meter Technician III. Typical tasks include:

  • Aids with the changing of water meters up to 2 inches in size.
  • Helps establish water service to new developments by completing wet tap orders.
  • Helps maintain daily work logs and logs of work materials.
  • Occasionally digs up and resets meter boxes as needed to perform meter changes.
  • Performs meter re-reads as needed.
  • Sometimes works alone.
  • Occasionally read water meter routes.

SOME SATURDAYS WILL BE REQUIRED.

EMPLOYEES WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESPOND DURING SEVERE/INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS, OTHER EMERGENCY OR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS DECLARED BY DIRECTOR.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.

Special skills or equipment certification will be required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using hand tools a plus.

Experience Working with Water meters /plumbing.

Outdoor work experience

Good customer service skills are necessary.
