Overtime as required by the needs of the department.

Job Description

The Water Meter Technician I will assist the Water Meter Tech III in performing meter testing, maintenance, repair, and replacement of meter boxes and pipe ranging in size from 5/8" to 10".

  • Water Meter Technician I must be able to read and record water meter readings.
  • Water Meter Technician I issue parts and monitor materials or tools used. Must have ability to use hand tools, specialty tools or Pneumatic tools in a proficient manner. This position will work in confined spaces.
  • Water Meter Technician I is required to operate and maintain various types of equipment or vehicles.
  • Water Meter Technician I will provide maintenance and housekeeping of meter shop, and equipment or vehicles.
  • Water Meter Technician I must be able to communicate and interact with public in a professional manner.

Required Qualifications

Vocational/Educational Requirement:

Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in accounting or a closely related field.

Experience:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

Special Requirements:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
