Water Distribution Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Two years of experience supervising crews involved in the installation, repair and maintenance of water mains, water service pipelines, fire hydrants, meters and meter boxes are required. Must possess a Driver license. Must obtain a State of Florida Level 2 Water Distribution System license during the probationary period which requires 6,240 work experience hours in order to take the water distribution system operator examination.

This is responsible supervisory and administrative work involving the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of the Countys potable water distribution system. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the activities of multiple work crews engaged in the construction, repair, rehabilitation, and maintenance of water distribution infrastructure. Responsibilities include overseeing geographically dispersed field operations involving the installation and repair of water mains, valves, fire hydrants, service connections, meters, and appurtenances, as well as excavation, restoration, and emergency response activities. Incumbents are responsible for effectively allocating personnel, equipment, materials, and other resources to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, departmental policies, and operational standards. Employees in this class exercise considerable independent judgment in coordinating multiple simultaneous projects, responding to emergency situations, resolving complex operational issues, and ensuring continuity and reliability of the Countys water distribution system. Duties include directing subordinate supervisors, inspecting work in progress and upon completion, evaluating operational performance, ensuring adherence to safety procedures, and providing technical guidance on difficult or unusual field conditions. Supervision is exercised over subordinate supervisors, skilled trades personnel, equipment operators, technical staff, and semi-skilled and unskilled employees. Work is performed under the general direction of a Water/Wastewater Operations Manager and is reviewed through conferences, operational reports, field inspections, and the overall effectiveness, quality, and timeliness of completed work.
