The Role
As a Water Restoration Technician, you will respond to properties affected by water damage and help prevent further damage through extraction, drying, demolition, cleaning, and restoration services. This is a hands-on role that requires urgency, attention to detail, and professional communication with customers experiencing unexpected property damage.
Responsibilities
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to water damage emergencies.
- Evaluate affected areas and assist in determining the equipment, labor, and resources required.
- Help stabilize properties and prevent additional damage.
Water Mitigation
- Perform water extraction, structural drying, and dehumidification services according to industry standards.
- Set up, monitor, reposition, and remove air movers, dehumidifiers, and other drying equipment.
- Remove damaged flooring, drywall, insulation, and other affected building materials as directed.
- Apply antimicrobial treatments when appropriate.
- Clean and prepare affected areas for restoration.
Damage Assessment
- Inspect water-damaged properties and identify affected structural materials and contents.
- Take moisture readings and monitor drying progress using industry-standard equipment.
- Document damage and completed work through photographs, diagrams, moisture logs, and written notes.
Customer Communication
- Communicate professionally with property owners and occupants throughout the mitigation process.
- Explain the work being performed and provide updates on project progress.
- Address customer questions or concerns and refer project-specific issues to the appropriate manager.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate project records, including time logs, moisture readings, photographs, equipment logs, expense reports, and customer communication.
- Provide timely project updates to the Emergency Services Project Manager.
- Ensure all required documentation is complete and submitted accurately.
Equipment Maintenance
- Properly operate, clean, maintain, and store restoration equipment and tools.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to a supervisor.
- Keep company vehicles, work areas, and equipment organized.
Safety Compliance
- Follow all RestoreCore and OSHA safety policies.
- Use required personal protective equipment and follow proper containment procedures.
- Participate in safety training and remain current on applicable industry standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to two years of water mitigation or restoration experience preferred.
- IICRC Water Restoration Technician certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with water extraction, moisture detection, structural drying, and demolition practices.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of construction materials and repair techniques.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in residential and commercial properties affected by water damage.
- This position requires indoor and outdoor work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Exposure to water, moisture, dust, fumes, odors, noise, and damaged building materials is common.
- Evening, weekend, holiday, and after-hours work may be required as part of the on-call rotation.
