Description
The Department of Engineering & Public Works, Utilities Division is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor!
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The CBJ treatment system is comprised of three Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW), with over 140 miles of mainline collections and 45 lift stations, servicing a diversity of domestic, industrial, and marine clients. Our waste treatment system is vital to our community, keeping our pristine and valuable fisheries and marine systems intact and productive.
After several decades of service, our complex and sprawling facilities are now undergoing a series of major technological upgrades and refits. Our goal is to usher the CBJ Utility into an era of advanced SCADA-controlled collections and treatment automation combined with integrated industrial source controls.
The successful candidate for this position will be well qualified to manage the operations of each of our three POTWs, using proactive approaches to maintain and exceed our regulatory expectations and protect our valuable receiving waters. The candidate will also use their creative, innovative, and technological skills to assist us in automating and controlling our systems for best efficiency and resilience.
We also expect that the successful candidate will be able to lead, train, and inspire our Utility Team in executing their duties and advancing our overall capacity to employ data-driven decision making in our operations.
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK ON OUR TEAM
Working within the CBJ Utility Team is diverse and dynamic with a small, dedicated group providing critical services to the Juneau Community. Most of our wastewater plant operators work extended four-day work weeks, with managers and supervisors and admins typically working a standard five-day schedule, with occasional emergency response callings and after-hours municipal meetings. Under our current configuration, there is emphasis on a hands-on approach to plant operations. However, we expect our plant dynamics to change to a more automated environment, allowing for greater efficiency, ease of operations and a data-driven management approach.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works (Monday through Friday) 8:00am - 4:30pm. This position also requires recalls for emergencies and weather events. While the base of operations for this position is at the Mendenhall Wastewater Treatment Facility, there is work required in and around the Juneau-Douglas and Auke Bay Wastewater Treatment facilities.
