JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for performing administrative and technical duties in support of the operation of the citys wastewater treatment activities. MAJOR DUTIES Assists with maintenance and repair on a variety of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment, including pumps, motors, controllers, valves, charts, and plant instrumentation. Oversees the function and operations of the wastewater treatment plant processes. Performs equipment checks. Collects samples; performs laboratory analyses to ensure that treatment facilities are operating efficiently; carries out corrective actions. Evaluates plant process performance and makes adjustments necessary to optimize their effectiveness. Maintains maintenance and chemical analysis records; prepares logs, records, and reports, including required local, state, and federal reports. Reads and interprets plans, maps, and specifications. Responds to after -hours emergencies when on call. Attends required training classes. Performs related duties. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant principles, operations, and equipment. Knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, and biology. WWTP Operator OIT, Wastewater Treatment Page 2 Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment. Knowledge in planning, organization, and decision making. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Wastewater Treatment Plant Lab Coordinator assigns work in terms of general instructions. The coordinator spot -checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include uniform plumbing and electrical codes, National Pollution Discharge Effluent Standards, EPA regulations, DEQ regulations and guidelines, and city policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may requir e some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of related administrative and technical duties. Changing environmental conditions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform general process and operational control duties . Successful performance helps ensure a safe and efficient wastewater treatment process . CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co -workers, the city electrical inspector, contractors, vendors, and engineers. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. The work is typically performed in a wastewater treatment plant. The work may also be performed outdoors, or in confined spaces, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts and contagious or infectious diseases. The work requires the proper use of personal protective equipment such as masks, safety glasses goggles, safety toed boots, WWTP Operator OIT, Wastewater Treatment Page 3 gloves and coveralls . SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills associated with a high school diploma or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Possession of a valid drivers license issued by the State of Wyoming for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of a Wyoming CDL within 6 months of employment. On the job training and actively working toward a Level I DEQ -certified License Level I Wastewater Treatment Plant, to be passed within one year of employment. On the job training and actively working toward a Level 4 DEQ -certified License level 4 Wastewater Treatment Plant, to be passed within 5 years of employment.
