The purpose of the Warehouse Associate Lead role is to ensure that all materials are dispersed as required, all available sales orders/deliveries are shipped and processed safely, on time, and with high quality. The Lead creates and manages work schedules in cooperation with the Warehouse Manager. Assigns, distributes, and monitors work of Warehouse Associates; trains and provides input about performance. This position is considered a “Working Lead,” with presence on the floor and running machines/parts as necessary being required as a part of standard job duties.
The Lead will also be responsible for taking on a role as a process improvement lead. In this position, the Lead will work with the Supervisor to analyze programs, tooling, and any other constraints to determine where efficiency gains are possible. Working with the Manager and appropriate suppliers where necessary, the Lead will make decisions about which tools can and should be used for various applications.
Responsibilities:
1. Safety
o Wears PPE as outlined in the Sonny’s PPE policy
o Maintains PPE and safety policies are followed by team members to ensure a safe work environment
o Attends safety trainings and safety huddles
o Identifies unsafe work conditions and reports them to the Supervisor, Safety Manager, or Production Manager
o Actively involved in suggesting and implementing safety improvements or initiatives
o Ensures all walkways, emergency exits, and panels are kept free from obstruction in accordance with all local, state, and national safety codes
o Checks for the safe and correct use of equipment by shipping/receiving staff
2. Quality
o Follows work instructions and meets quality control expectations
o Participates in corrective action process and other problem-solving meetings as needed
o Follows all quality processes, performs inspections, and documents checklist actions as required (I.E. all staging documents are provided to team members prior to crating, ensures all line items are checked off and initialed during packaging process).
o Provides accurate dimensions for freight shipment booking to supervisor
o Actively involved in performing and sustaining 5S initiatives
3. Packaging and Shipping
o Work autonomously and as an integral part of our team to ship parts according to development timelines and constraints.
o Lead is able to problem solve and be creative when constraints/challenges arise in partnership with Manager
o Ensures that finished product is high quality and matches the requirements from the sales order
o Ensures packaging is appropriate to minimize potential shipping damage including packing materials for small packages and crate structures to deter double stacking
o Substitutes for other shipping Associates as needed
4. Personal Development
o Completes annual self-evaluation review on time
o During annual review, clearly articulates goals for upcoming quarter to Manager
o Attends monthly 1-to-1 meetings with Manager
o Completes goals as set by Supervisor within goal time period
o Attends internal training seminars as required/scheduled by Manager
5. Inventory Management
o All finished goods are placed into the correct storage locations
o All completed parts are put away in their respective bin locations
o Leads monthly inventory cycle counts with assistance from Manager
6. Preventive Maintenance, Calibration, and Housekeeping
o Performs all daily preventive maintenance actions
o Ensures daily checklist for the forklifts are completed
o Ensures all surfaces are wiped down, floors are swept, and material is put away daily
o Engages the Manager to promptly schedule any required repairs to minimize downtime
o Ensures all walkways, emergency exits, and panels are kept free from obstruction in accordance with all local, state, and national safety codes
o Perform the scheduling and workload management functions of the Manager in their absence, as required
7. Continuous Improvement
o Attends all continuous improvement trainings and actively participates in 5S initiatives
o Engages Manager on the floor and in monthly 1-to-1 meetings to discuss challenges due to work center setup, part storage, material handling, etc.
o Submits or engages Manager with suggestions and proposed solutions to existing challenges
o Participates in problem solving meetings with team members to determine possible solutions
o Works with Manager to plan and schedule improvement project implementation around production schedules and requirements
8. Culture
o Provide coaching to other staff members and be an effective model of the behaviors that support the company’s culture
o Be attentive to the behavior of other staff in accordance with the company’s mission, vision, and values, and inform supervisor of potential concerns
o Provide constructive input to the definition of the departmental and company cultures by reinforcing required behaviors and holding team members accountable for displaying them
o Train and cross-train personnel to provide employees with the skills needed to perform their jobs.
o Able to compose professional emails and diligent on response times with team members/management.
Qualifications:
Experience & Education:
• 5+ years of warehouse experience preferred
• Forklift experience required
• Scan Gun experience required
• High School Diploma/GED required
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
• Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
• Will require heavy work (lifting greater than 30 pounds). Ability to carry 50 lbs. for 100 feet unassisted.
• Machinery operation requires the use of safety PPE equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, steel-toe shoes, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted
• Regularly required to stand or sit and move about the facility. Ability to stand for 8 hours per day.
Materials and Equipment Used: Will require proper coordination, and motor skills to work with power/hand tools as needed.
Tools: SAP Software, Label Machines, scales and printers.
