Description

A nonprofit organization in New York City is seeking an experienced Accountant to join their team as their new Interim VP, Accounting.

About the Opportunity:

  • Shift: Day shift
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Hours: Standard business
  • Setting: Hybrid (at least 2 days onsite)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic oversight of the general ledger, financial reporting, compliance, and treasury functions.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information and reporting.
  • Advise executive leadership on financial risks, opportunities, and operational improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting and finance team, including direct reports.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, audits, and key regulatory filings.
  • Strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and support scalable accounting operations.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive Accounting experience, including public accounting and leadership experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification
  • Experience in a large nonprofit environment with complex funding structures
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, US GAAP, internal controls, and donor or grant compliance
  • Experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, treasury, and audits
  • Experience managing and developing finance staff

Desired Skills:

  • MBA
  • Experience with nonprofit ERP systems such as NetSuite and budgeting tools
  • Experience working with executive leadership, audit committees, finance committees, and board stakeholders
  • Strong proficiency with audit software, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office
