WHAT THE PROGRAM OFFERS YOU
Personal Satisfaction & Professional Excellence: Serve alongside full-time professional peace officers in one of
Colorados finest law enforcement agencies.
Mentoring & Squad Integration: Recruits receive a dedicated mentor during the Reserve Academy and are
assigned to active squads alongside senior Reserves upon graduation.
Camaraderie & Social Events: Strong unit cohesion built through agency-sponsored events including annual
summer camping trips and holiday celebrations.
OUR HIRING PROCESS & ACADEMY
Selection Process (~4 Months): Annual recruitment includes a Written Exam, Physical Fitness Test, Oral Board
Interview, Background Investigation, Polygraph Exam, and Psychological Test.
POST Reserve Academy (257 Hours): Sheriffs Office-sponsored training held in-person during evenings and

monthly meetings and training.
Callouts & Recertification: Maintain pager availability for emergency callouts (wildland fires, search & rescue, crime
scenes, CSU games, county fair) and complete 40 hours of annual recertification.
Essential Functions
Arrest & Suspect Control: Effect arrests forcibly when required using handcuffs and restraints, subduing resisting
suspects with self-defense maneuvers and approved weapons.
Emergency Vehicle Operation: Operate law enforcement patrol vehicles day or night during emergency situations,
congested traffic, and adverse weather (ice, snow, rain, fog).
Criminal Investigations: Gather facts by interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, and locate, collect, and
preserve physical evidence and dangerous substances.
Independent Legal Judgment: Exercise sound judgment to establish reasonable suspicion for detentions, probable

Firearms Proficiency: Load, unload, aim, and fire agency handguns, shotguns, and rifles accurately under
high-stress conditions justifying deadly force.

and breach barriers using physical force.
Radio Communications & Documentation: Communicate coherently over radio channels and prepare accurate
investigative reports, citations, affidavits, and warrants.
Emergency & Rescue Operations: Administer emergency medical aid, direct traffic, deploy fire extinguishers/gas
masks, and assist in county search and rescue callouts.
