    VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACHING OPPORTUNITIES (Various Sports)

    I. Title: Volunteer Assistant Coach

    II. Function:

    Assists in the supervision of athletic activities under the direction and supervision of a Board of Education appointed Shore Regional High School coach, and Assistant Principal of Athletics.

    Volunteer coaches will be approved to enrich the athletic program and assist the districts coaching staff in the performance of their duties.

    III. Qualifications: Volunteer coaches will be screened by the Superintendent, Principal and/or Assistant Principal of Athletics. All volunteer coaches must complete a criminal background check and be approved by the Board of Education prior to assuming any coaching responsibilities. The district is not obligated to utilize the services of a volunteer coach whose abilities or interests do not serve the needs of the school district as determined by the Superintendent.

    IV. Reports To: Head Coach and Assistant Principal of Athletics

    V. Requirements:

    • Board of Education Approved

    • A provisional, standard or substitute teaching certificate

    • A New Jersey Resident

    • NJSIAA Required Courses:

    • Fundamentals of Coaching (One time requirement)

    • Not required for Coaches with experience prior to 2006-2007

    • CPR and AED Certification (Every two years)

    • Concussion Awareness Course (Must be completed every year)

    • Heat Acclimatization Course (Must be completed every year)

    • Implicit Bias (One time requirement)

    • BeNice Certification (One time requirement)

    • Any other sport specific courses/certifications/trainings as required

    V. Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Volunteer coaches may only serve under the direction and immediate supervision of a Board of Education employed coach.
    • Assists the coaching staff in the delivery of an effective instructional/athletic program.
    • Volunteer coaches can serve only in a support capacity and only coaches employed by the Board of Education are responsible for the supervision and instruction provided to the student-athletes.
    • Volunteer coaches are not permitted to access pupil records.
    • Volunteer coaches must exercise discretion in disclosing any confidential pupil matters the coach becomes aware of as a result of being a volunteer.
    • Volunteers shall receive no financial remuneration.
    • Volunteer coaches may be immediately relieved of their volunteer responsibilities, with or without cause, by the Superintendent.
    • Volunteer coaches must be cognizant of the rules and regulations of the NJSIAA and the Shore Conference.
    • Assists with clerical and other tasks related to the athletic program as assigned by a board employed coach or the Assistant Principal of Athletics.
    • Volunteer coaches must clearly understand their duties and responsibilities.
    • Follow all school, Shore Conference, NJSIAA (state) and NFHS rules when and were applicable.
    • Related duties as requested by the Assistant Principal of Athletics.
