The Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY Network, is seeking a Visual Storyteller to lead compelling photo and video journalism that brings to life the biggest stories in Florida's capital region.This is a high-energy, digital-first role focused on capturing and producing visual content - from breaking news and community moments to enterprise storytelling - that engages audiences across platforms.We're looking for a creative, fast-moving journalist who can tell powerful stories through images, video and emerging formats, with a strong sense of urgency and an eye for what resonates with digital audiences.
What you'll do
Capture and produce compelling visual journalism, including photography, video and short-form social contentCover breaking news and major events, delivering visuals quickly to support real-time reportingTell people-first stories visually, focusing on the impact of news on local communitiesEdit and publish multimedia content optimized for digital, mobile and social platformsUse analytics and audience insights to guide visual storytelling decisions and improve engagementCollaborate with reporters and editors to develop multimedia storytelling plans for daily and enterprise coverageIdentify and pursue visual opportunities around trending topics and high-interest storiesProduce video-first journalism, including vertical video, explainers and live coverage formatsEnsure all work reflects accuracy, context and journalistic integrityMaintain equipment and stay current on emerging storytelling tools and techniques
What we're looking for
A digitally savvy visual journalist with strong photography and video skillsAbility to work quickly under deadline while maintaining high-quality standardsExperience editing video and photos for web, mobile and social platformsUnderstanding of audience behavior, SEO and social media trendsStrong storytelling instincts with a people-centered approachAbility to juggle breaking news, daily assignments and enterprise projects simultaneouslyFamiliarity with analytics tools and social listening to identify visual opportunitiesA collaborative mindset and ability to work across teamsBachelor's degree in journalism, multimedia or related field (or equivalent experience)2+ years of professional experience preferred
