Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacy Practice invites full-time faculty candidates for Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice (Infectious Disease) within the Feik School of Pharmacy beginning November 2026. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. Note this position is tenure-track eligible beginning June 2027.

Credentials of finalist will determine final rank.

The expected practice site is Methodist Hospital Stone Oak in San Antonio, Texas.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
  • Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
  • Teach in the didactic and experiential curriculum.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy service focused on infectious disease pharmacy (such as antibiotic stewardship/antibiotic optimization, provider and pharmacy education, and stewardship rounds/meetings).
  • Precept pharmacy students and residents at the clinical site.
  • Precept research projects (as needed).
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Maintain privileging and training requirements of the practice site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Expert in the area of infectious diseases pharmacy.
  • Effective instructional delivery.

  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.

Required Education

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree with postgraduate residency training in infectious diseases, pharmacotherapy, or equivalent experience.

Required Work Experience

PGY2 infectious disease or pharmacotherapy pharmacy residency or fellowship or equivalent experience in infectious diseases.

Preferred Qualifications

Board certification in pharmacotherapy or infectious diseases pharmacy.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

  • Licensed pharmacist and eligible for licensure in the state of Texas; note that Texas licensure must be secured within one month of assignment.
  • Applicants will be expected to become a certified preceptor with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy within one month of assignment.
  • Applicants must obtain and maintain credentialing with the practice site.
