Job Responsibilities

The successful candidates will provide vision and hearing screening of preschool and school-age children throughout Kent County per Michigan Department of Health and Human Services protocols.

Duties include:

  • Providing vision and hearing screenings of pre-school and school-age children and youth throughout Kent County
  • Documentation of screening results
  • Referrals for medical evaluation and follow-up
  • Wide use of electronic medical record
  • Assisting parents in accessing appropriate care and resources for their children

This position follows a nine-month calendar and is generally scheduled to work September through May annually but may be required to work year-round.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • One year of successful experience in an education or health and human services position requiring work with children
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with children from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and with extreme variability in levels of developmental ability
  • Ability to successfully complete Michigan Department of Community Health training and pass the examination for certification as a Public Health Vision and/or Public Health Hearing Technician
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license
  • Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply
