Viking Mascot must have a flexible schedule as work hours vary.
This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill Part-Time assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview. Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide and cultivate engaging collegiate experiences for students attending Del Mar College and to represent the institution in a manner that builds positive branding in surrounding communities.
This position fosters an enriching connection among Del Mar College's various supporters , including the campus community, alumni, future students and general population to reinforce Del Mar College's mission, values, and commitment to the communities it serves while encouraging a vibrant collegiate culture that nurtures the Viking spirit.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled as a Del Mar College student in good academic standing, not subject to college discipline per the DMC Student Handbook, and available for at least two semesters per academic year.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to maintain availability to work events throughout the academic year, which includes evenings, weekends and summers as needed. (Student's class schedule is considered when booking appearances.)
Physical ability to maintain good posture and to perform the following actions: (i.e, standing, running, kneeling, reaching, hopping, jumping, bending, waving hands/arms, etc. )
Must be of the height and weight to wear the Viking costume comfortably and support the weight of the costume for extended periods of time.
Must provide a minimum of 15 Viking Volunteer hours during per semester employed beyond the 19 hours per week maximum paid hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a costumed mascot or character.
Knowledge of the Corpus Christi and surrounding communities as well as all campus locations.

Distributes DMC promotional items designed to create good will and increase attendance at events.

Personally interacts in character at performance level with students, staff, faculty and community during all events. Character poses for photographs and communicates creatively without speaking.

Maintains Viking costume care, including cleaning and required maintenance.
