Castleton Commodities International (CCI) is seeking a Senior Front Office Software Engineer to develop and support technology that powers investment decisions, trading activity, and commercial analytics.
This hands-on role partners directly with trading teams to translate business needs into scalable, reliable software. The engineer will build Python services, APIs, applications, and analytical tools within CCI's firmwide front-office platform, with a strong emphasis on cloud-native development, software quality, and production reliability.
The ideal candidate combines deep Python expertise with practical experience deploying and operating applications on AWS using container technologies, including ECS and EKS.
Responsibilities:
- Partner directly with commercial trading teams to understand business requirements and develop solutions that improve trading workflows, models, and decision-making.
- Design, develop, and maintain Python services and APIs using modern frameworks, sound design patterns, and established software engineering practices.
- Build applications and analytical tools supporting supply-and-demand analysis, position analysis, and market data workflows.
- Develop and integrate cloud-native services within CCI's firmwide front-office technology platform.
- Deploy, manage, and support containerized applications on AWS using ECS and EKS.
- Apply DevOps practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and monitoring, to improve delivery speed and production reliability.
- Take ownership of application performance, troubleshooting, and ongoing production support.
- Collaborate with engineering colleagues to strengthen architecture, code quality, and reusable development standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on Python development experience.
- Advanced understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and maintainable application architecture.
- Demonstrated experience building, deploying, and supporting production applications on AWS.
- Hands-on experience with containerization and AWS container services, including ECS and EKS, with a working understanding of Kubernetes.
- Practical experience with DevOps practices, including version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and application monitoring.
- Strong SQL skills and experience designing, querying, and integrating database technologies.
- Experience developing services and APIs and integrating them into broader application platforms.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
- Ability to manage changing priorities, work collaboratively, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in energy or commodities trading, including familiarity with commercial workflows, market data, supply-and-demand fundamentals is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic and high-intensity environment including open-floor plan if applicable to the position, with timely responsiveness and the ability to work beyond normal business hours when required.
