    About Quandary

Quandary Consultants is a Denver-based environmental consulting firm founded in 2016. Our team of professionals delivers air quality permitting and monitoring, stormwater management, wildfire mitigation, operational environmental services, and environmental commodities support. Clients, including leading energy operators across Colorado's basins, rely on us as a true partner, and that reputation is our most valuable asset.

Quandary is now partnered with a lower middle market private equity firm to scale the platform: expanding into new end markets and geographies, building out our internal infrastructure, and pursuing acquisitions. The VP of Finance is a foundational hire in that plan.

    Job Summary:
You will be Quandary's first dedicated senior finance leader and a trusted partner to the Co-CEOs and our PE sponsor. You'll own financial reporting, cash and liquidity management, and FP&A, and build the real-time data and systems that let leadership run a growing business with confidence. This is a hands-on seat for someone who wants to build, not just maintain.

    Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Partner with the Co-CEOs and leadership team as a critical-thinking voice in strategic planning and day-to-day decisions
    • Own the monthly financial package, 13-week cash flow forecast, and liquidity planning, including lender relationships and covenant compliance
    • Build the FP&A function: budgeting (including the annual operating plan), forecasting, KPI tracking, and scenario modeling across T&M, fixed-fee, and recurring revenue
    • Lead project- and client-level profitability analysis to support pricing, margin improvement, and portfolio decisions
    • Strengthen the order-to-cash process, billing discipline, and internal controls
    • Lead accounting operations, financial statements, and annual audit/tax coordination, working with outsourced providers during the transition
    • Support M&A: financial diligence, modeling, and post-close integration of systems and financial records
    • Prepare and present financial materials to the Board and sponsor
    • Evaluate, select, and implement finance systems and dashboards that put accessible, real-time data in the hands of project and practice leaders
    • Assess, develop, and hire the finance team; the scope of finance and administration functions (e.g., reporting, compliance) will be shaped as the organization evolves

    Skills/Abilities:
    • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including senior leadership
    • Experience in professional services, consulting, or other project-based, billable-hour businesses
    • Strong command of forecasting, cash management, and financial modeling
    • Experience managing lender relationships and debt covenants
    • Track record of implementing systems and improving reporting
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
    Preferred
    • CPA and/or MBA
    • Prior experience working with private equity owners
    • M&A experience, including diligence and integration
    • Experience with environmental, engineering, energy, or technical services firms

    What Will Make You Successful:
    • Genuine curiosity about how the business works and a willingness to work closely with technical and operational leaders
    • Comfort with ambiguity and the judgment to act without perfect information
    • A hands-on style that balances tenacity with humility, at ease in a small, entrepreneurial team
    • Ability to focus on what matters most and communicate it simply
    • High integrity and transparent leadership

    First-Year Priorities:
    • Learn the business model, client mix, and service-line economics
    • Stand up reliable monthly reporting and cash forecasting within the first few months
    • Assess the finance function and build the team and systems needed to scale
    • Support the annual budget and the strategic plan
    • Partner on the acquisition pipeline and integration readiness

Expected Salary: $200,000 - $240,000 plus equity participation
    Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours a week minimum
Work Location: Denver, CO: Reliably commute to Denver office daily.
