Summary:

Vice President, Medical Affairs, Physician Enterprise (VPMA) is responsible for the strategic and clinical performance of the Catholic Health Physician Enterprise. This position provides leadership for the clinical practice management function of the physicians employed and contracted within Physician Enterprise, Ambulatory Care and the Clinical Councils. Requirements include development and implementation of clinical programs, clinical protocols, and a clinically integrated network. Partners with the Chief Physician Executive on provider compensation structures, contract development and management, integration, and growth and advancement of physician and Advance Practice Provider services. Ensures full governmental and regulatory compliance within Physician Enterprise and Ambulatory Care. Oversight and creation of programs that foster positive relationships among physician practices, and Catholic Health's service delivery entities. Ensures productive partnership with system and community medical leadership. Actively supports the effective recruitment and growth of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers and physician leaders within Physician Enterprise and Ambulatory Care. As the key leader in clinical matters relating to the organization's Physician Enterprise, working closely with the VP of Operations, Physician Enterprise, the Dyad Medical Directors and Dyad Administrative Directors on aligning and integrating physician practices within the organization to ensure efficient, high-quality care and access to the community. Provides strategic planning, alignment with system wide initiatives, senior level leadership, guidance and oversight. Partners with Vice President Operations, Physician Enterprise regarding Trinity Medical responsibilities including accountability for quality performance, active leadership in market share growth, practice acquisition and assessment, recruitment initiatives, clinical financial performance, and productivity. Will work to enhance productivity and financial performance in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and goals of Catholic Health. Critical to the success of this role is working collaboratively with Catholic Health administration, hospital administration, Catholic Medical Partners, and medical staff leadership to effectively maximize efficiency of clinical components of patient care. Establish an effective medical group culture which is patient centered, evidence based, interdisciplinary, and which continuously improves the patient's experience, safety and quality while reducing expenses. Educate physicians and caregivers, support interdisciplinary teams, and implement strategies and standards which support care that is patient centered, evidence based, and interdisciplinary.

Through collaboration with medical leadership, the VPMA will be responsible for forging relationships to streamline triage and care of patients according to evidence based practice and a patient centric model.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Physician, MD, DO
  • Licensed or eligible in New York State
  • Board Certified in clinical specialty
  • BA/BS required
  • MBA, MHA, MSM, or MSHA preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of ten (10)-years of leadership experience in healthcare management with knowledge of healthcare administration, finance, regulatory and reporting requirements required. Significant leadership, with experience practicing medicine along with medical staff or administrative leadership positions, such as Chief of Staff, Department Chairman and/or Chief Medical Officer
  • Experience in a large, multi-specialty integrated healthcare delivery system required
  • Medical Group Practice Management experience required, Multi-Specialty group practice management experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Experience developing and leading Medical Group Practice
  • Knowledge and experience developing physician compensation models, productivity measures, and industry benchmarking
  • Knowledge and experience developing clinical coverage models in both ambulatory and acute settings
  • Knowledge and experience with practice operations, recruitment, physician contracting, financial management, coding & billing, legal and regulatory standards required as applicable to this role
  • Knowledge of contracts and contractual arrangements related to clinical services and physician hospital relationships to include employment, professional services, call agreements, service agreements, and management agreements
  • Knowledge of laws and regulation governing physician hospital business relationships such as but not limited to Stark, Anti - kickback, Antifraud & Abuse
  • Knowledge of electronic health record, clinical decision support, meaningful use requirements, PCMH, clinical integration, and quality standards
  • Knowledge of the Ethical and Religious directives for Catholic Health Care Services and the associated clinical and corporate policies, procedures, and practices
  • Ability to manage complex problems and difficult situations
  • Ability to manage effective relationships and collaboration with a wide range of individuals from professional to front line, as well as members of the community
