    Position Overview

    The Vice President, Legal (Supplemental Insurance) will be responsible for providing legal counsel throughout the lifecycle of supplemental insurance products—from initial product development and regulatory review through policy administration and claims. This role will partner closely with Product, Operations, Sales and other departments to help develop supplemental insurance products compliant with applicable laws and regulations, as well to support policy and claim administration.

    Position, launch, and scale solutions that provide employees with financial protection following covered serious illnesses.

    Build distribution approaches for income protection solutions that help employees address temporary disability events.

    Develop sales, education, and distribution strategies for accident coverage that complements employer benefit offerings.

    Major Duties & Responsibilities

    • In-house counsel primarily focused on the supplemental insurance product line.

    • Provide legal guidance on the development, design, structure, and launch of supplemental insurance products.

    • Advise the Product team on applicable laws and regulations.

    • Review and help develop policy forms, endorsements, applications, disclosures, notices, and marketing materials for supplemental insurance products.

    • Support product filing and approval processes.

    • Assess product features, pricing structures, benefits, exclusions, limitations, and operational processes from a legal and regulatory perspective.

    • Review content used in the enrollment and claim processes and oversee technology, medical, and regulatory compliance requirements.

    • Develop applicable distribution agreements.

    • Provide legal counsel regarding the administration and operation of supplemental insurance products.

    • Advise the Operations team on coverage questions, eligibility, enrollment, billing, claims, and other product administration matters and review internal operational processes.

    • Review marketing material for legal and regulatory compliance.

    • Provide guidance on complaints, disputes, escalated claims, and other matters involving policyholders and insurance producers.

    • Support audits, regulatory inquiries, and examinations as needed.

    • Engage and manage outside counsel when specialized expertise is required.

    • Review applicable vendor contracts.

    Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.

    • 7+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably with an insurance company.

    • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations, particularly those applicable to supplemental insurance products.

    • Experience advising on insurance product development, policy forms, regulatory filings, or product implementation.

    • Experience providing ongoing legal support for insurance operations, including claims, and policy administration

    • Strong analytical, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
