POSITION:                   Vice President, Finance & Accounting
REPORTS TO:             Chief Administrative and Finance Officer
 
ACHE is a hybrid work environment, requiring 2 days per week in our Chicago loop office and as such, only Chicago area based candidates will be considered.
 
PURPOSE
 
The purpose of this job is to serve our Members, Customers and Co-workers.
 
SUMMARY
 
The Vice President of Finance & Accounting will serve as a strategic financial executive responsible for the financial stewardship, accounting operations, financial planning & analysis, compliance and audit oversight, and long-term fiscal sustainability of the organization. This role reports directly to the Chief Administrative and Finance Officer and partners closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, and various committees to ensure sound fiscal management aligned with ACHE’s mission and strategic priorities.
 
JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Financial Management & Accounting Operations                                         20% of Time
    1. Oversee all finance and accounting functions including annual budget creation, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close.
    2. Lead annual budget, multi-year financial planning and forecasting processes and monitor organizational performance against budget.
    3. Ensure timely preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting standards and principles.
  2. Financial Planning & Analysis                                                                      15% of Time
    1. Provide financial analysis of ACHE’s portfolio of products and services including financial modeling support for new business initiatives.
    2. Provide counsel and support to senior leaders to evaluate and enhance profitability and growth of current products and services.
    3. Identify feasibility of new business and product opportunities to leverage the achievement of strategic initiatives and maximize return on investments and/or return on mission.
  3. Revenue & Resource Management                                                                15% of Time
    1. Monitor diverse revenue streams including membership dues, conference/education events, fundraising, and investment income.
    2. Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and banking relationships.
  4. Audit Management and Regulatory Reporting                                              15% of Time
    1. Lead and manage the external audit process. Serve as liaison with independent auditors.
    2. Coordinate audit preparation schedules, financial documentation, and responses to audit inquiries to ensure efficient and timely completion.
    3. Oversee preparation and review of IRS form 990 and other required filings.
    4. Ensure timely completion of financial compliance reporting and required disclosures.
  5. Compliance, Risk Management & Internal Controls                                     10% of Time
    1. Maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure financial integrity.
    2. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, IRS regulations, donor restrictions, and federal/state reporting obligations.
    3. Monitor and evaluate all non-staff related insurance programs. Solicit/review bids for new and renewal plans.
    4. Identify financial and operational risks and provide summary/make recommendations to the CEO and Chief Administrative and Finance Officer.
  6. Systems & Process Improvement                                                                10% of Time
    1. Oversee ERP and financial systems, ensuring data integrity and optimal utilization.
    2. Identify and lead initiatives to improve financial processes, automation, and scalability in support of company growth.
    3. Collaborate with IT and operations to align technology investments with finance objectives.
  7. Leadership and Supervisory Activities                                                          15% of Time
    1. Lead, mentor, develop, and oversee finance and accounting staff.
    2. Ensure team members keep up to date with plans and developments affecting ACHE operations.
    3. Build organizational financial literacy by supporting department leaders in budget planning and financial decision-making.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Minimum of ten years progressive finance and accounting experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, audit management, internal controls and financial compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting and forecasting, managing audits, IRS Form 990, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors, Finance/Investment Committees, and Audit Committees.
  • Skilled in data visualization.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Microsoft products and other financial analytical tools.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have strong customer service orientation and team orientation.

  • Ability to respond quickly to situations influencing decision making.

COMPENSATION
This is an exempt/salaried role, paid on a bi-weekly basis. We anticipate filling this position in a salary range of $160,000 - $210,000 annually.
 
This salary range represents ACHE’s good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The compensation offered will take the following into consideration: education, relevant experience, certifications, organizational budget, and market estimates for the role.
